Waterfront character areas as the key elements in building the city - river relationship

Urban waterfronts have undergone a long process of evolution, and their functions, designs primary uses naturally developed along entire length within cities. Unique character areas emerged alongside rivers. They serve as key elements in building the city–river relationship, represent valuable spaces with various identities that complement each other while contributing to overall identity city. However, unique place river relationship are underestimated not formally established. The development is often uncoordinated, full potential remains unexploited. To understand nature particular place, connotations its users ascribe it must be examined. In order define form basis waterfront areas, we conducted questionnaire survey socio-spatial analysis. study defined Bratislava waterfront, highlighting variability, distinct characters, utilisation. A vision for area was formulated based on elements. sensitive approach can bring diversity, sustainability inclusivity, provide reasons visit space. Character should preserved long-term respecting specific given place.
